Next Group Ride - Thursday 27th August - POSTPONED until next year?
Meet at Bitton railway station (free car park) at 10.00 for 10.15 departure.
From Keynsham, take the A4175 north to Willsbridge and turn right at the roundabout to join the A431 towards Bath. Go under a railway bridge and take the next (sharp) turn left, signposted Avon Valley Railway.
We take the Bath-Bristol cycle way to Warmley cafe for coffee.
We then continue on to Bristol along the cycle way and go around the harbour for lunch in Wetherspoons.
We take the NCN 3 cycle route out of Bristol then back to the Bath-Bristol cycle way to return to Bitton.
The total is around 30 miles, but with no major hills. It is more hilly on the second part of ride.

Cycle ride for Somerset NHS Charity - Sunday 13th September
Cycle 42 for Cancer is a well organised cycle ride around the lanes of South Somerset to raise funds for the Somerset NHS Charity; in particular for cancer services across the county.

The cost for an individual is £35 but you get a drink at the start and BBQ food and entertainment at the end; and a T shirt. You can choose to follow a 22, 42, or 62 mile route (or run 10k or a half marathon). All include free refreshment stops offering drinks, cakes, and cider!
Please contact me if you want more details. I signed up for the 62 mile route last year and enjoyed the ride despite the wind and almost continuous rain after the first hour. I will take a towel and a change of clothes this year although the organisers have promised fine weather.

Please Read
As most of you already know, John Wh. who was group leader for many years with the Easy Ride group has had to resign due to health issues. It will be sad to see this group fold due to the lack of leadership; if there is no one individual prepared to lead the group maybe it could continue if it was run on a joint basis with two or more members of either group meeting together to sort out a workable plan. This may be the way forward for both groups because I shall have to hand the baton on sometime in the future (possibly the end of 2026/27) and I would feel badly let down if it folded due to the lack of some form of leadership.
Please give this subject some serious thought, I am quite happy to chair any meeting I hope will eventually happen. Please don't let it come to this through the lack of trying to overcome what after all is a relatively minor hurdle to keep the groups alive.

An Interesting Challenge!
The u3a Street & Glastonbury Cycling Group is doing a two-day outing on the Somerset Circle for Cyclists on Thursday, 6th and Friday, 7th August 2026. We, as a group, have been invited to join in.
It's a ninety-mile outing going from Wells to Cheddar, Clevedon, Bristol, Bath, Radstock, Shepton Mallet, ending in Wells. The outing will involve an overnight stay in Bristol. The appeal of this outing is quiet country lanes and dedicated cycle paths. Most of the S & G group members taking part will be on e-bicycles. Here is a link to a description and map of the ride:
