We are a friendly, welcoming group who regularly walk once a fortnight on different days of the week, throughout the year.
The walks are mostly in Somerset and range from 4 to 6 (& very occasionally 7) miles in length. At the end of the walk we have lunch and a drink together, usually in a pub.
Some members of the group act as walk leaders and always manage to find different routes to walk, usually with some items of interest along the way. Walks are always checked out by the walk leaders in advance so that everyone knows the length and terrain of the walk. (Details are communicated by email to all members).
Do get in touch if you are interested in joining us.
7th July 2026 Walking Group Summer Walk and Lunch
Walkers set out from the Wells & Horrington Cricket Club for a walk prior to the group annual “Summer Lunch” party. Mike, who was leading for the first time, had done his homework. He led the group on a route through fields and a wildflower meadow to the level of the Lyatt. In East Horrington, shade was found for a coffee stop at the other cricket ground. Then a return route past more wonderful wildflowers and poppies, and Buddleia full of butterflies. Back to South Horrington to join other members for a delightful alfresco lunch on the veranda with a selection of salads & yummy deserts. A lovely summer walk followed by a feast! Great teamwork & camaraderie.

8th June 2026 Pensford
Starting in Pensford this was a beautiful 4 mile circular route – up hill around fields of wheat and then through Lords Wood, on to Woollard and back across fields following the river Chew to Publow. We stopped in the churchyard to see “Acker” Bernard Stanley Bilk’s grave.
All enjoyed an excellent lunch at The Rising Sun where we requested “Stranger on the Shore” to be played for us!
29th May 2026 Farrington Gurney
A very pleasant walk from Farrington Gurney passing through Chewton Wood and the Hollow Marsh Nature where Pat was delighted to take photos of some rare plant species.
We dodged the light showers whilst we were in the woods. A very convivial walk with great scenery. Shower proof jackets were on then off then on again, but mostly it was dry and a very pleasant temperature for walking.

14th May 2026 Mells
A gentle 5.5 mile circular walk across fields from Mells Church to the Colliers Way, walking along the track for 1.5 miles and then to Great Elm and through the woods along beside the Mells Stream. 14 walkers.

1st May 2026 Circular walk from Chewton Mendip
13 walkers enjoyed a 5 mile circular walk starting at the church with some far reaching rural views including at the location for the refreshment stop, the Waldegrave family mansion, Spring flora including bluebells, Bell Hill and Watery Combe.

15th April 2026 A walk from Hinton Blewett
A beautiful morning. The group descended slowly then across fields towards Litton Reservoir, which was the coffee stop. Many wildflowers spotted including Cardamine pratensis. An excellent lunch at the Ring O’ Bells as the rain came down!
31st March 2026 West Lydford to Keinton Mandeville
14 members of the Group enjoyed a flat walk from West Lydford church.
The route took us through the apple orchards then along Cotton Lane to Keinton Mandeville. Then a loop through the Keinton and up Babcary Lane. The mud had dried so the bridle path to Mardi’s Lane in West Lydford was passable.

17th March 2026 The new foot path to the Windsor Hill Tunnel, Shepton Mallet
A lovely flat 4 mile walk starting at the Thrupe Lane end of the newly opened path to Ham Lane going over the Ham Wood Viaduct and through the Windsor Hill tunnel .
The hard- work of local volunteers transforming the old railway track of the Somerset & Dorset Line was apparent from the tree planting and well kept paths. It will form part of the Somerset Circle through to Midsomer Norton and Radstock, and through the Two Tunnels into Bath.
5 March 2026 Priddy
19 walkers enjoyed this 5 mile circular walk from Priddy. Across the green and up passed the Nine Barrows. Coffee stop was sitting on grassy tumps!
Down a tricky path to the legendary “Fair Lady Well” and then picking up the drove back to Priddy and a welcome lunch at the Queen Victoria.
