Next Group Ride - Thursday 22nd October
Meet at 9.45am for a 10.00am start from the RSPB Ham Wall car park at Ashcott Corner. This is a pay and display car park and even if you have an RSPB annual pass you are now supposed to scan your card and obtain a ticket. There is also a free (voluntary donations) car park opposite which is run by Natural England.

We turn left out of the car park and head up the hill to Ashcott. (Some will doubtless have to wait for others at the top as it's quite steep, especially with cold muscles). We then cross the A39 and head South, skirting High Ham and onto Pitney Farm Cafe for our coffee stop. We then head to Somerton via Somerfield Road, which is a track with a short (700 yards) rough section. You'll probably need to dismount for the very last part. This avoids going on the main Somerton road. There are amazing views over the Langport Vale.

We then continue through Somerton, through the Charltons and lunch is at Sourdown Farm in Butleigh, returning to Ham Wall via Watchwell & Street Drove.  30.6 miles in total with 725 feet of ascent. The worst hill is the long one at the start. There's a limited lunch menu at Sourdown; breakfast baps, chilli, quiche and soup and lots of cakes.  It's a lovely venue though.

Please let Jane G. know by email or WhatsApp by the morning of Saturday 15 October if you plan to come. The venues can then be given estimated numbers.

Please Read
As most of you already know, John Wh. who was group leader for many years with the Easy Ride group has had to resign due to health issues.  It will be sad to see this group fold due to the lack of leadership; if there is no one individual prepared to lead the group maybe it could continue if it was run on a joint basis with two or more members of either group meeting together to sort out a workable plan.    This may be the way forward for both groups because I shall have to hand the baton on sometime in the future (possibly the end of 2026/27) and I would feel badly let down if it folded due to the lack of some form of leadership.

Please give this subject some serious thought, I am quite happy to chair any meeting I hope will eventually happen.   Please don't let it come to this through the lack of trying to overcome what after all is a relatively minor hurdle to keep the groups alive.
